In order to boost the sale of Indian Smartphones, the Indian government may ban the sale of China-based low-end smartphones (less than ₹ 12,000).

In another blow to Chinese companies, the Government is planning to ban Chinese smartphones to boost the sale of homegrown brands like Micromax, Lava, Karbonn, and others.

As per Bloomberg reports, the government of India is planning to push Indian smartphone makers. If the move comes into effect, it is clearly going to impact sales for brands like Xiaomi, Poco, and Realme, among other companies that have been dominating the affordable smartphone segment for the last several years now.

As per the statistics, smartphones under Rs 12,000 contributed to a third of India’s sales volume for the quarter through June 2022 with Chinese companies accounting for up to 80 percent of those shipments.

Recently, some Chinese firms including Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo were charged by the ED over alleged tax evasion. Also, the Enforcement Directorate froze Vivo’s bank accounts in a money laundering case.

However, The company later urged the authorities to release the frozen bank accounts so the company could continue business in India.
