UK’s 3rd Female PM Liz Truss becomes PM with Queen in audience

After defeating Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss has become the third female Prime minister of the UK. The votes were counted on Monday and she was declared the winner in UK’s Conservative leadership contest.

After Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May, Liz Truss has become the third woman Prime minister of the United Kingdom.

However, her key cabinet posts will no white man. The announcements of the key ministerial portfolios are expected to start pouring in by Tuesday evening.

For the first time in Britain’s history, there will not be a white man in one of the four great offices of state.

According to the reports of the English Newspaper Guardian, Liz Truss is expected to appoint James Cleverly as foreign secretary, Suella Braverman as home secretary, and Kwasi Kwarteng as chancellor.

It also reported that her rival, Rishi Sunak, is not expected to be offered a job in her cabinet, a break from the tradition whereby most unsuccessful leadership contenders have been offered posts.

She will succeed Boris Johnson, who was forced to announce his resignation in July after months of scandals saw support for his administration drain away and ministers quit to force him out, reported Reuters.

Scientists discover an intelligent face mask that detects Covid, flu, & other viruses and alerts you on mobile in 10 minutes

Researchers have created a face mask that can identify common respiratory viruses that are present in the air as droplets or aerosols, such as influenza and COVID-19. The incredibly-sensitive face mask may alert users via their mobile devices within 10 minutes if specific viruses are present in the air.

Respiratory bacteria that cause COVID-19 and H1N1 influenza release microscopic droplets and aerosols into the air when an infected person speaks, coughs, or sneezes. These virus-containing molecules have a protracted suspension time in the atmosphere, especially the tiny aerosols.

Previous research has shown face mask wearing can reduce the risk of spreading and contracting the disease. So, we wanted to create a mask that can detect the presence of virus in the air and alert the wearer,” says Yin Fang, the study’s corresponding author and a material scientist at Shanghai Tongji University.

He further said, “Our mask would work really well in spaces with poor ventilation, such as elevators or enclosed rooms, where the risk of getting infected is high,”.

Also,  If a new respiratory infection appears in the future, they can simply alter the sensor’s design to account for it”.

The team’s next goal is to optimize the design of the polymers and transistors in order to reduce the detection time and significantly boost the sensor’s sensitivity. Additionally, they are developing wearable medical equipment to treat ailments including cancer and cardiovascular problems.

Aptamers, a kind of synthetic molecule that can recognize particular proteins of pathogens like antibodies, were used by the team to create a tiny sensor. The team changed the multi-channel sensor in their proof-of-concept design so that it could simultaneously recognize the surface proteins on the SARS-CoV-2, H5N1, and H1N1 viruses.

Spraying the mask with liquid and aerosols containing viral surface proteins within a container that was tightly closed allowed Fang and his colleagues to test the mask. According to Fang, the volume of liquid created by coughing or talking is far more than the 0.3 microliters of liquid carrying viral proteins, which is between 70 and 560 times smaller than the volume of a single sneeze. Even smaller quantities of viral proteins elicited a response from the sensor.

Once the aptamers link to the target proteins in the air, the associated ion-gated transistor will boost the signal and alert the wearers via their phones. The mask swiftly detects even minute levels of airborne viruses thanks to a novel and very sensitive device called an ion-gated transistor.

“Currently, doctors have been relying heavily on their experiences in diagnosing and treating diseases. But with richer data collected by wearable devices, disease diagnosis and treatment can become more precise,” Fang says.

If the wife visits her husband’s office to create an unpleasant scene, it is ‘Cruelty’: Chhattisgarh HC

The Chhatisgarh High Court has recently upheld the Divorce Decree granted in favor of a husband while observing that his wife’s act of storming his workplace and abusing him in foul language amounts to cruelty.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Goutam Bhaduri and Justice Radhakishan Agrawal was adjudicating upon an appeal against a Family Court order, wherein the court held:

“In such a situation when a wife goes to the office premises of the husband, abuses him and accuses him of certain relation, naturally it would result into diminishing the image of the husband before the colleagues and the office stature will certainly go down. Except such an oral bald allegation by the wife, the allegation could not be established. Even it is stated that the wife used to abuse the in-laws and stopped the husband from meeting his parents, which would also amount to cruelty.’

The appellant-wife has a child with the respondent-husband. With the passage of time, their relationship soured as issues arose over her spending habits. It was the husband’s allegation that she spent whenever he wanted to visit his parents, the wife used to abuse him resulting in the stoppage of the meeting of the husband with his parents. It was further alleged that without the consent and permission of the husband she went to a place called Belpahad for her business at Mahanadi coalfield for the business of coal shifting and when the husband tried to intervene, he was abused and insulted.

The allegation went further till she used to forcefully acquire the husband’s salary and when asked about expenses used to reciprocate abusively. It was further alleged that on one occasion the wife had surreptitiously stolen away the valuable papers which were kept in the car and were arrested for the same when her crime was proved.

The wife in turn in reply contended that she had never misbehaved with the husband and had not committed any cruelty but it was at the behest of the husband after an affair, they entered into wedlock. She further stated that the husband knowing fully well that she is a widow, the marriage was performed. She further stated that because of the wish and will of the husband, she underwent surgery to conceive the child, and thereafter child was born. It was further stated that after the birth of the child, the behavior of the husband became strange and for some reason or the other, he wanted to separate.

The Court mentioned the Supreme Court Ruling in Samar Ghosh Vs. Jaya Ghosh, 2007 Latest Caselaw 273 SC whereby it defined mental cruelty. As far as the issue of extra-marital affairs was concerned, it referred to Narendra Vs. K. Meena, 2016 Latest Caselaw 733 SC wherein it was held that when the assassination of character is made by either of the parties it would constitute mental cruelty for which a claim for divorce under Section 13(1)(i-a) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 would be sustainable.

After appreciating all the evidence and material on record opined that the Family Court Judgement needn’t be interfered with.

Actor Shefali Shah feels this campaign is just a momentary trend and not something that will last.

People have their points of view, they have their opinions, but there is also a lot of love and appreciation that we get. I think we should just take it in our stride and just say ‘we tried’ and we move on.”

US Attorney General “Personally Approved” FBI search at Trump’s Home this week

US Attorney General Merrick Garland confirmed that he had “personally approved” the FBI’s extraordinary raid at Donald Trump’s Florida home. He also condemned “unfounded attacks” on the FBI following the unprecedented action against an ex-president.

However, he did not explain the apparent reason behind the search but stressed that there was a “probable cause”. Moreover, the reports say that the search was conducted for documents related to nuclear weapons.

He said to the reporters, “I personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter, The department does not take such a decision lightly.”

The people who are familiar with the investigation say that FBI officials were looking for classified documents related to nuclear weapons, among other items, at Trump’s Florida-based home

However, they neither explain the documents in detail, nor whether the documents related to nuclear weapons belonging to the US or another nation.

But, if it comes out that Trump took the documents from the white house, it would raise the question of why a former president would need such closely guarded secrets after leaving office.

The possibility that such material would be held at an unsecured facility, where guests come and go and where it would be potentially vulnerable to penetration by a foreign intelligence service, would alarm government officials.

Mike Pence, Former vice president of the US, expressed “deep concern” and said that the raid smacked “partisanship” by the Justice Department.

Trump said, “Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before,” and condemned the raid as “Politically motivated” and a “weaponization” of the Justice Department.

Kim Jong Un fell ‘seriously ill’ during Covid Crisis, reveals his sister

‘Kim Yo Jong’, younger sister of North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un, revealed that her brother had “fallen ill” with a “high fever” amid the country’s fight against Covid-19. She also accused South Korea of causing a Covid outbreak in the country and warned of “retaliation”, as Pyongyang declared “victory” over its outbreak, state media said Thursday.

The revelation of her brother’s illness marked an unusual admission for a regime that rarely comments on the leader’s health and then only shows that he shares the struggles of the people.

According to Korean Central News Agency, Kim Yo Jong said in a speech that the North Korean leader was “seriously ill” during his bout with fever.

Still, she added, “Even though he was seriously ill with a high fever, he could not lie down for a moment thinking about the people he had to take care of until the end in the face of the anti-epidemic war”.

Kim further said, “the victory gained by our people is a historic event that once again showed the world the greatness of our state, the indomitable tenacity of our people, and the beautiful national customs we are proud of”.

Since May this year, North Korea has reported about 4.8m cases of “fever” among its population of 26 million but identified only a fraction of them as Covid, possibly to avoid creating public alarm and because of a lack of testing kits.

Facebook shares Teenager’s Private Chat with Cops, Delete Facebook trends on social media

Social media giant Facebook faced outrage by complying with US police probing an abortion case, boosting simmering fears the platform will be a tool for clamping down on the procedure.

The US resident Jessica Burgess, 41, has been accused of helping her teenage daughter terminate her 24-week pregnancy in the midwestern US state of Nebraska.

The incident came to the fore when Nebraska Police gained access to her Facebook messages using a warrant and found messages in which the two discussed medications for inducing an abortion and were planning to burn the fetus afterward.

Due to this report, the mother has been charged with five sections under the law and one of them includes offence under a 2010 law that only allows abortion up to 20 weeks after fertilization.

However, the daughter has been charged with three sections which also include concealing or abandoning a corpse.

Till June, states in the US weren’t allowed to enforce abortion bans until the point at which a fetus is considered viable outside the womb, which is at roughly 24 weeks.

Logan Koepke, a researcher has said in a tweet, “Sentence would seem to imply that *if* the search warrants mentioned abortion, there would be a different result. But of course, that’s not true”.

“Nothing in the valid warrants we received from local law enforcement in early June, prior to the Supreme Court decision, mentioned abortion. The warrants concerned charges related to a criminal investigation and court documents indicate that police at the time were investigating the case of a stillborn baby who was burned and buried, not a decision to have an abortion.”, Andy Stone, Facebook parent Meta’s spokesperson said in a tweet.

FBI agents executed a search warrant against the US Former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida, and had even broken into his personal safe.

American media reported the search was part of an investigation into the potential mishandling of presidential documents that Trump had brought to his residence after leaving office in January 2021.

CNN News quoted that the former President’s son Eric Trump told Fox News “the purpose of the raid…(was to) corroborate whether or not Donald Trump had any documents in his possession.”

However, The FBI has not released any official statement regarding the reasons for the search. But the Justice Department has been investigating the former President’s handling of White House records after the US National Archives stated in February that it had found classified information in 15 boxes of records that it had retrieved from Trump’s lawyers.
