US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lands in Taiwan disregarding China’s threats, China asks the US to stop playing the “Taiwan Card”
Disregarding Beijing’s several threats & warnings, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan aboard a US military aircraft late on Tuesday. China accuses the US of paying the “Taiwan Card” to contain Beijing.
Pelosi landed in Taipei on Tuesday night, becoming the highest-ranking US official to visit Taiwan in 25 years.
While she was traveling, her aircraft was one of the most-tracked aircraft in the world because internet users sought to track US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on a trip to Taiwan.
According to FlightRadar24, a popular aircraft-tracking website, Almost 300,000 users followed every move of “SPAR19,” a US Air Force-operated Boeing C-40C.
The military is closely monitoring the situation and has reinforced alertness, a statement released by Taiwan’s Defence Ministry after Pelosi landed in Taipei. They also said that China attempts to threaten their key ports and cities with drills around Taiwan.
“The Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China, and no other country is entitled to act as a judge on the Taiwan question,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement minutes after Pelosi landed in Taipei.
“Our delegation’s visit to Taiwan honors America’s unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan’s vibrant Democracy.
Our discussions with Taiwan leadership reaffirm our support for our partner & promote our shared interests, including advancing a free & open Indo-Pacific region.”, Pelosi said in a tweet after landing in Taipei, Taiwan.
She further said, “Our visit reiterates that America stands with Taiwan: a robust, vibrant democracy and our important partner in the Indo-Pacific.”
China claims Taiwan as part of the mainland and vows to integrate what it calls the rebel province even by force.
